Grow, Cook, Eat workshops begin in South Burnett
More than 20 enthusiastic parents and school children fromWinderaStateSchoolwere the first group to participate in a new workshop being coordinated by RHealth and BIEDO called “Grow, Cook, Eat!”.
The free gardening and cooking workshop was held on Wednesday 3 August and saw mums, dads and kids teaming up to cook yummy dishes such as Ratatouille, Quesadillas and Citrus Coleslaw.
Berniece Hilly from RHealth said the workshops are being run in conjunction with the BIEDO/School community permaculture gardens and aim to help families think about ‘swapping’ some foods for healthier options.
“We’re giving mums, dads and kids some ideas about how to modify their meals to make them healthier, like using legumes instead of meat, or maybe using lime juice or balsamic vinegar instead of creamy salad dressings,” Berniece said.
“It’s also just about having fun when you’re preparing food and cooking together and then of course eating the delicious results!” she said.
Dates for upcoming workshops are:
