The hugely popular ‘BIEDO Women’s Wellness Days’ celebrated a milestone when they kicked-off again this week at Proston and Tansey – five years of pampering and caring for our rural women!
Since 2007, more than 2,200 rural families and businesses have benefited from the Wellness Days, which provide information and assistance in stress, anxiety and depression management, and also some much needed pampering and health care for rural women. And already in 2012, another 120 women have enjoyed these much anticipated events!
“Rural women are the cornerstone of their families, rural businesses and communities and these special days support them with an enjoyable relaxing few hours and lots of helpful information about managing stress, anxiety and depression in rural families and businesses. This has been so important in the flood recovery period. The water might be gone, but difficulties experienced by our businesses and communities continue. Stress and depression management continues to be essential as primary producers and rural businesses face an uncertain future with new global economic troubles, climate change, and continuing post-flood recovery challenges. ” BIEDO CEO, Linda Silburn said.
“Once again our ladies are enjoying massages, footcare, relaxation, fantastic guest speakers (including our regular presenter, Sr Christine Henry of Downsand Community Support), delicious food and of course great company. There’s also the opportunity to learn new skills, talk with service providers, and our Women’s Health Nurse, Marcia Hunt, is available for pap smear appointments,” she said.
BIEDO, in partnership with Downs and West Community Support, Centacare South Burnett and community volunteers will run a total of 11 Wellness Days over the next four months in the Central and South Burnett. “With the generous support of the Australian Government and our long-term partners, BIEDO is putting together our fifth year of wellness days!” Linda said.
