Community Solutions

 

BIEDO Inland communities experience many service gaps - transport health access, training and education, telecommunications, etc.

 

BIEDO tries to find practical solutions to those gaps.  We build government and community partnerships.  We gather funds and resources.  We lobby.  We kick start action.  Some of the 'Solutions' projects to date include:

• Community Service Directory- has more than 140 community and health services listed.  The Directory helps people know what services are available to them, and how to access them.

• Comfort Packs- Containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, a phone card, cosmetics, hand towels/washes - for Inland people in unforeseen emergencies: eg- hospitalisation.

• Service Maps- Provide Inland families with information on laundry mats, ATMs, Medical Centres, 24 hour shops, accommodation, crisis support, etc.

• Accommodation for Inlanders- When stranded or supporting family members in hospital.  Rural families often need to be near a family member in hospital.  In partnership with Bundaberg Base Hospital and other partners, BIEDO is working on affordable accommodation within easy reach of the hospital.

Community Assist

 

BIEDO provides grass roots capacity building and renewal services.  We help communities to achieve their priorities, work out practical 'how-to's and strengthen skills.  We assist you to plan and manage projects and events.  We assist diverse groups to work together.

• Capacity building workshops- 3 hour practical sessions in writing successful submissions, project and finance management, leadership, meeting management, working with media, group dynamics and event co-ordination.

• "The Road Ahead"- Helping communities to refine priorities, clarify future vision, working out the practical 'how to's' of making it happen.

• Project Management

• Event co-ordination- (we can support your group or do it for you)

• Fund Writing

• Helping to set up micro-businesses- Operated by local people to provide these services on a sustainable basis.

• Problem Solving- Helping innovative ideas happen.
