Research about our Region

One of BIEDO's key roles is to identify emerging issues and opportunities in the Inland Burnett. This gives us direction to help improve the economic and social renewal of our region. Our most recent research comes from our "Clean and Clever Inland" project, with the release in June 2011 of the "Clean and Clever Action Plan", identifying a comprehensive series of recommendations for action to help the Inland Burnett transition to an innovative, vibrant Green Economy. See below for more research titles.

Fast Facts Newsletters

BIEDO produces regular "Fast Facts" newsletters focusing on topics of interest to our region. These newsletters include handy graphs, succinct information and links to further reference material. Following are the current list of topics:

Rural Students and University 'Fast Facts'
Does coming from a rural area make it more difficult to achieve university qualifications? BIEDO wanted to learn more about the barriers and challenges that arise for rural students. Information is derived from publicly available research, backed up by interviews with Inland Burnett students.

Clean and Clever Burnett Action Plan (June 2011)
The Action Plan is the first phase of the BIEDO’s Clean and Clever project (funded by DEEDI). It identifies a comprehensive series of recommendations for action to help the Inland Burnett transition to an innovative, vibrant Green Economy that is sustainable, responsible and inter-connected with social and environmental imperatives. The Plan was produced with the assistance of hundreds of primary producers, town-based businesses, schools and community members throughout the Inland Burnett who participated in an extensive survey process.

Inland Burnett Community Resilience Strategy (2008)
In 2007, BIEDO received "Local Answers" funding from the Federal Government for the "Beating the Blue's" program. Within this project was the opportunity to develop a whole-of-region strategy to map services and individuals who respond in some way to mental health impacts, and consult with a wide cross-section of both the South and North Burnett. The aim was to ensure a strengthened and co-ordinated network able to monitor and address mental health issues which reinforce community capacity and resilience.

Rural Capacity and Resilience Report (2009)
This survey was conducted by BIEDO on behalf of the Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) to help us understand what Inland Burnett rural and regional people need to know about keeping their environment healthy, keeping their business healthy and keeping their community healthy. This survey asked those who do know... the people of the Inland Burnett! You can also see a copy of the questionnaire.
