Peak Regional Body - Burnett Inland

BIEDO is the peak regional development body for the Burnett Inland.  Our delegates represent the interests of councils, business & industry, community sectors and interest groups, councils & business.

BIEDO was incorporated in 1997; we are non-profit & non-government.

We are financially & organisationally independent.  We are not affiliated with any government or non-government entity; although we form working partnerships with many different agencies and groups.  Partnerships enable ACTION and ACTION is our focus.  We value our partners for all they have helped us to achieve.

The Inland covers an area the size of Great Britain, comprising 14 primary communities and 29 villages and farming districts.

Face of the Burnett Inland

BIEDO is the 'face & voice' of the Burnett Inland.

BIEDO has a strong representative role.  We help the Inland to be seen and heard; we help sectors - no matter how 'invisible' - to state their case, positively and constructively.  We build bridges.

BIEDO was established in 1996 by community & industry activists concerned about the impact of drought on our region.  Since 2000 it has gone from strength to strength.  BIEDO is now auspiced by 3 regional councils (formerly 12 shire councils) and companies such as Tarong Energy, with many smaller businesses and community groups supporting us through membership, project partnerships and communication networks.

Despite its growing success, BIEDO is still a grassroots, not-for-profit incorporated organisation that is directed by our industry, community and council members (see below).  It is entirely project & member funded; we do not receive government recurrent funding.

The Problem Solvers

BIEDO specialises in ‘rural problem-solving’.  We find innovative, practical ways to ensure that every community in the Inland has growth industries, viable businesses & reasonable access to health, education, employment, training, and other services.   BIEDO has created & proven several rural innovation models, which are practical, cost effective & successful - in rural passenger transport, community microbusinesses, rural health access, sustainable communities, 'green' industry and  recruitment employment and training for small isolated communities, to name a few.

We find innovative, practical ways to ensure that every community in the Inland has growth industries, viable businesses and reasonable access to health, education, employment, training, and other services.

Customised Innovations

We customise.  Customisation makes our programmes relevant & accessible – to all sectors of community & business from small isolated communities to people with children, people without transport, people who don't have access to the internet, people who may have problems with literacy/numeracy, people who can't access additional services during business hours - anyone and anywhere. Where our clients encounter any sort of barrier we try to help them solve it so they can access the services they need to improve their livelihoods and their lives.

Making a Difference

BIEDO believes in making a difference.

Everything we do should add value to someone’s life or livelihood.

Nothing That Can't be Resolved Between People of Goodwill

BIEDO believes there is nothing that cannot be resolved between people of goodwill & energy, working together for communal benefit – preferably in the presence of good food, good wine & good company.  There are few things that can resist the power of creative minds, goodwill, commitment and laughter. We’ve demonstrated this over the last 10 years – through our outcomes, awards and enduring partnerships.

Everyone Contributes - Everyone Benefits

BIEDO believes in communal benefit and communal responsibility – whether the issues entail environmental management, prosperity, community wellbeing, accessible services…

The future is ours to determine

BIEDO has a vision of the Inland as a place where anything is possible.  We see the Inland as an international leader in applied green technology within the next 7 years, and a world leader in rural renewal within the next 5.   Rural regions are the ‘new frontier’.  We need a different way of looking at old problems, the courage of conviction, the discipline of action, more laughter and more than a little dark chocolate.

There are no horizons among people of goodwill, ability & commitment.

BIEDO has ‘critical mass’

If you want to be seen and heard these days, you have to be big enough that you can't be ignored.

One community, working alone, is not big enough. Many communities working together can make a difference.

BIEDO is the ‘face & voice’ of the Burnett Inland

BIEDO has a strong representative role.  We help the Inland to be seen and heard; we help sectors – no matter how ‘invisible’ – to state their case, positively & constructively.   We promote the endless potential & scope of a rural region to our urban counterparts.   We build bridges.

If we stand up, and stand together, we can make great things happen.
